We all have an idea about what censure is in china, about what is forbidden and what is not. Once in place, after a while it can be very choking, especially when you have lived in a country where you can say what you want to who you want without to knock against a wall.

Depends on generations, but China is a country very closed, the country of the middle right?! Out of boundaries, nothing exists. That’s why we create our own Google: Baidu, our own MSN: QQ. We never show on TV, foreign TV-shows, or just few of them.

Once I was talking with a Chinese girl who wanted to know my opinion about Beijing. I said that it’s a nice city, but very polluted and there is too much censure. She didn’t know what censure is, so I explained quickly. And after that, she asks: “do you really think that some things are forbidden in China?”

A lot of websites (Blogspot, Skyrock, Skyblog, Dailymotion, BBC …), some newspaper like Newsweek and others things are censured. Fortunately, God created proxys, to browse website blacklisted by the Greatfirewall.

There are too kind of censure, one from others (I mean the government), and another from our self: “self-censure”.  Too many things are still taboo. Sometime, you have some words in your mouth, but they won’t go out because they will just knock against a wall (however, some Chinese are very open).

Fortunately, the present generations is more and more curious and try to know things about foreign cultures. To learn English there are no so much choice, they need at least to know things about Anglo-Saxon culture.

It’s a shame, so many people doesn’t speak English. Taxi driver, ladies in hotel, people in bank ... The Olympic Games are in one year now and I am wondering how they will manage to welcome people coming from all over the world. I was talking with a friend who told me that they will never be ready if they have to start learning English now. So what is the solution? A huge turn-over to hire only people just graduated from university or volunteer who speak English?

On a tous son idée de se qui est interdit ou pas en chine, de la notion de censure chinoise. Une fois sur place, au bout de quelques temps, ca devient étouffant, quand on a vécu dans un pays ou tu pouvais dire se que tu veux, à qui tu veux sans toujours se heurter à un mur.

Ca dépend des générations, mais la Chine est un pays très fermé. Comme le dit son nom, le pays du milieu. En dehors des frontières, rien n’existe. Pour cela on créé notre google national : Baidu, notre MSN : QQ. A la télé on ne diffuse aucune, ou très peu de séries étrangères.

Je parlais une fois avec une chinoise qui me demandait si j’aime Beijing. J’ai répondu que c’est une ville sympa, mais très polluée et trop de censure. Elle ne savait pas se qu’était la censure, puis je lui ai  expliqué brièvement. Elle m’a dit suite à mon explication : « tu penses vraiment qu’il y a des choses interdites en Chine ? ».

Faut savoir qu’en chine, un bon nombre de sites web (Blogspot, Skyrock, Skyblog, Dailymotion, BBC, …), certains journaux genre Newsweek et bien d’autres choses son censurés. Heureusement, Dieu a créé les proxys, pour contourner le Greatfirewall.

Il y a certes cette censure qui nous tombe dessus, mais aussi celle que l’ont s’applique : l’autocensure. Trop de taboo, j’ai les mots dans ma bouche, mais je ne peux parfois pas les sortir car ils vont se heurter à un mur (certains chinois sont cependant très ouverts).

Heureusement la génération actuelle est de plus en plus curieuse et se tourne vers l’étranger. Pour apprendre l’anglais, ils n’ont pas le choix, ils doivent s’intéresser à  la culture anglo-saxonne.

C’est dommage, qu’il y ait aussi peu de gens qui parlent Anglais. Les taxis, les hôtels, les banques, n’ont souvent pas d’employés qui parlent ou comprennent anglais. Sachant que les jeux olympiques sont dans un an, je me demande comment ils vont se démerder. J’en parlais avec un pote qui disait qu’ils ne pourront jamais avoir les bases nécessaire en si peu de temps. Dans ce cas, s’est quoi la solution ? Un massif turn-over forcé pour privilégier les jeunes qui ont eu la chance d’aller à l’université ?
